If you’ve been vaping for quite some time now, then you’ve probably seen your vape juice turn either dark or brown. While this is a regular occurrence, what’s the real reason behind this phenomenon? Is it good for your health, or is there any downside to this?
The real reason why your e-liquid is turning dark is due to the chemical reaction known as oxidation. Once nicotine is exposed to oxygen or even light, it can cause it to react, turning your vape juice into a dark or even brown color. There’s nothing “abnormal” about it. It’s just pure chemistry.
It’s basically just the same thing as when you cut your apple, and you realize that a few minutes later, the once white flesh has turned brown. Right? So oxidation is normal, and it’s a process that should be expected from your e-juice even though there’s a thoroughly low amount of nicotine. So depending on how much nicotine is in your vape juice, that’s how dark your e-liquid will become.
Although, is there a way to prevent this from happening?
Even though this process is normal, you can still prevent this from happening by storing your e-liquid in a cool and dark place. You can also prevent this if you avoid agitating your e-liquid as much as possible and if you don’t mix and match your e-liquids. Yes, the latter is quite a thing.
So the next time you feel like your vape juice is starting to turn brown, then it’s probably high time for you to try doing some of the things above to prevent it from happening again. Although, if it does happen, be sure to be reminded that it’s a perfectly regular occurrence, and it does happen every once in a while.
